FMQC September

I think I need to work on when tracing back over the previous stitched lines, staying on the lines.

Hmmmm....I think I got lost a few times... I need to draw this more with pencil and paper, then try again.

For Zander

My niece gave birth to Zander 6 weeks early weighing in at 3 pounds.

Using 3 charm packs of Lill and Will II, plus yardage for binding and backing, the disappearing nine patch makes a striking quilt for anyone.

Modern Vintage Look

I just love how this turned out; vintage style apron with modern fabrics. The pocket is topped with a ruffle in the same fabric as the waistband.

I Said the Magic Words...

It started out as a great night sewing, I was making progress on my current project.  Then the tail from extra spool of thread that was sitting on the spool holder adapter (see blue arrow), got caught around the hand wheel. I unplugged the power, loosened a bunch of screws but couldn't see the thread. I said the magic words, "I'm going to have to take it to my dealer", that caught Dan's ear, he quickly came in to see what the problem was.
He removed the case and proceeded to unplug all sorts of connections, we removed the belt, as the thread was tangled all around the motor fan assembly.

She is all back together and working great...time to call it a night.

FMQC - April

Sub-titled- Leave well enough alone! This technique was awesome, using tulle as a stencil. I echo outlined the design a few times, but then had the (not so) brilliant idea to color it with fabric markers. Well I won't do that again or at least not with markers.

Saddle Bag

My original bag design made with the Summerlove line from Art Gallery Fabrics, with burnt orange piping. There is an inside pocket for my phone, and is roomy enough for my wallet and Kindle or iPad.

Free Motion Challenge # 2

Outlined Feathers...Tutorial with Diane Gaudynski

I drew the design with a chalk pencil, and tried to follow the lines, a few little wiggles here and there but overall it turned out OK. I found that while free motion quilting, if I pull the fabric towards me rather than push away, it works better for me.

Pillow Talk

In my basket of quilt binding left-over’s, I found this bright yellow fabric, added cording and made my own piping.

Below is the Birth Sampler I made after Ben was born. I trimmed it to fit a 12 x 16 pillow.
Using 2 strips from a jelly roll, cut to 1 1/8 incehs wide, I added cording to make the piping. Both pillows have the same blue fabric on the back.

Happy Birthday Ben, on Sunday,  Happy Birthday Luke, on Tuesday.
Happy Birthday Dan on Wednesday!

Making Old New Again

Below is a birth sampler I made almost 31 years ago after Luke was born. It was in a frame stashed away in a closet. I removed it from its frame, trimmed it down, and added a border, as it will now become a pillow.

Free Motion Challenge

I think I have pretty good tension, and semi-smooth stitching here. Then it came to me, I realized I know why I have such a problem with free motion quilting. You see I have a terrible sense of direction. It really baffles me, I just don't understand why I have this problem. Even shopping in a mall, I tend to exit a store in the direction I entered it thinking I'm going the other way, and the list goes on. So relating to free motion quilting, I have a hard time deciding which direction to go, where to stitch next.  I've been practicing on my iPad, just finger drawing the design, maybe I just need to practice more, and more, and more.

You can find out more about this challenge here.
