The Fairy Princess and Cowboy Ben

My son Ben called me the Thursday, said he was having a problem finding parts for his Halloween costume. I told him I'd see what I could do. So on Friday, off to JoAnn Fabrics I went. While looking at patterns there was this adorable little girl, I'd guess she was about 4 years old. I asked her what she was going to be for Halloween, she proceeded to tell me all about her fairy princess costumes with wings. I told her my son wants to be a cowboy, she asked he how old he was, I replied oh, he's 22.

So here was his costume dilemma. Chaps. He wanted a pair of Chaps. So I thought , I can do this, after all what are Chaps, but legs of a pair pants held together by a belt. I found this great suede fabric with a fringe on one salvage. All their costume fabric was 70% off. So I paid less than $3 a yard for the first yard, $1.50 for the second...end of bolt discount. I purchased a unisex pajama pattern drew new lines for the front and back, cut my pattern out of Pellon Craft Bond, the suede was very flimsy and need some stiffener.

Ironed the Craft Bond to wrong side of fabric.

Added 1 inch to front and back curves, clipped curve sewed 2 rows stitching.

Top stitched the front to the back because of the fringe. Sewed the inseams...

I covered 1 inch webbing with 2 an 1/2 inches of suede using zig zag stitch added two lines for decoration, added D-rings.

There he is....Cowboy Ben!
